About James
Hello, I’m James!
I’m James Montgomery-Heffernan, the person behind JMH Celebrancy.
I’ve always believed that the most meaningful moments in life are the ones that bring people together.
Whether that’s celebrating love, welcoming someone into the world or remembering a life well lived, these moments deserve to be recognised in a way that feels personal and genuine.
A little about me
My professional background is in senior leadership, housing and community services, where I’ve spent many years supporting people, leading teams and helping individuals through some of life’s more challenging circumstances.
Throughout my career, I’ve developed a passion for listening to people, understanding their stories and making a positive difference.
I’m also an experienced public speaker and have spoken at conferences and important personal occasions, including funerals for family members and friends.
Those experiences have shown me just how powerful the right words can be.
Why celebrancy?
My interest in celebrancy comes from a simple belief: ceremonies should never feel like someone is just going through the motions.
When I got married, I remember feeling that our ceremony could have been more personal and enthusiastic. It made me appreciate just how important the person leading a ceremony can be.
A celebrant has the opportunity to create something completely different.
Something filled with warmth, personality, emotion and, where appropriate, a little humour.
I love the idea of helping people tell their stories and creating moments they’ll remember for the right reasons.
What matters to me
Being personal
I want to get to know you and understand what matters most.
Being inclusive
Everyone deserves to feel welcome, respected and represented.
Being genuine
I believe ceremonies should reflect real personalities and authentic stories.
Getting the details right
Sometimes it’s the smallest touches that make the biggest difference.
Making a difference
Above all, I want people to feel listened to, supported and confident that their ceremony is in safe hands.
A ceremony that’s wonderfully you
Whether your occasion calls for laughter, tears, reflection, celebration or a little bit of everything, I’ll work with you to create something meaningful.
Because the best ceremonies aren’t simply delivered.
They’re remembered.
I’d love to hear your story.
My approach
Leadership, listening and calm presence
Years of senior leadership and public speaking have taught me how to hold a room steadily, communicate clearly and guide people through significant moments with patience.
Some ceremonies are joyful and some are hard to put into words. I take the time each one needs, and I shape every word around the people involved rather than a script.
Every family is different, and every love story and life deserves to be marked in a way that feels genuinely its own. Everyone is welcome here, whatever your background, belief or identity.
